Gorgeous! Don't give up if it goes dormant!
I bought my flame thrower Red bud in August so it has been in the ground for about 8 months. When I first got it it had only a few leaves which were quickly carried away and are very windy Central Florida beach conditions. All winter it was nothing more than a stick and I was sure it died because when I scraped the bark it was very brown and maybe of the tiny branches would just crack when touched. I waited until about April when I decided to give it some espoma tree fertilizer and trim back a couple of inches on each remaining branch to see if I could promote growth. After only a week I started to notice the tiniest flush of leaves coming out all along the branches! Now it looks absolutely stunning. After only a couple of weeks, the leaves are already changing colors. I live in Central Florida zone 9B near the beach so it's very windy. There are days when I'm not sure this little tree is going to be able to hold on to its leaves, but so far it's been very strong. I decided to use a little bit of bonsai wire to strengthen the tiny little branches, which seems to hold in place a little better. I'm hoping as it grows it will become stronger. I can't wait to see how it looks next spring, hoping for some flowers!
Eye Candy
My Son planted this redbud for us. It has grown tremendously in the two-years that we have had it. I worry about the thin trunk, but without any staking, it has proved to be as tough as tacks. The early leaves are magical. Almost like fairy candy. Love it!
Doing great after 1 year in the ground
My flamethrower redbud tree is doing great after just one year in the ground. It arrived at 5 ft tall and is now 7 ft tall as can be seen by it being strapped to a 10 ft tall white PVC pipe for support. I and my neighbors just love the show that it puts on with its multiple colors. Couldn't be happier. Jon
Updated review
Fast growing trees quickly refunded my purchase for the damaged tree. Unfortunately, there were not any more in stock to ship, but the customer service was much improved from the last time.
Package was delivered on time
Package was delivered on time and tree inside was good protect! But disappointed! For the price I thought I would have something better, but no, two bad things, first the trunk is nothing more than a branch that is growing but it is very thin, and second the leaves are burned, and I fear that the tree will not survive
